Does my photographer need to have worked in my venue before?
Sometimes it’s easy to think that a photographer needs to have worked in your venue for them to be the right one for you. Our Photography expert Lucy explains why this isn’t the case…
I think this is a question many photographers get asked, and they should be honest with you if they have or not. I completely understand why you might think this is important. If you can see their work at your venue, it helps you to imagine your own day, the places you want to have photographs taken and how your photographs might look.
But remember, two weddings are never the same. Even if you choose the same suppliers, your day will be filled with your unique touches, your guests, and your style. You as a couple will probably act different to previous couples – your wedding will be truly yours and your photographs will reflect that. Like many photographers, I don’t want to take the same photograph twice. If I’m at a venue I have photographed before, I love the challenge of finding new places or new ways to capture photographs. This is so your images are truly unique, just like the rest of your day. If it’s a new venue, it equally exciting to discover all the hidden gems. If you’re concerned about where your photographs will be taken, speak to your photographer, they may be able to visit your venue beforehand, or you might even be able to have your pre-wedding shoot there.
A good wedding photographer will be able to keep their style consistent and provide you with beautiful photographs, no matter what the venue. It might be handy to know if they are familiar with it, but it shouldn’t be a deciding factor. Take a look at our post about choosing your photographer and that might be able to help.
If you love their work and think they are someone you can get on with, then it shouldn’t matter if they’ve worked at your venue before, if they are local or if they are based the other side of the country. All that matters is if they are the right fit or not for you.Should your photographer have worked in your venue? Click To Tweet
