Tell us a little about the history of The Venue and The Liver Building…

The Royal Liver Building opened in 1911 as the headquarters to the Royal Liver Friendly Society. It is a Grade 1 Listed site, and the most famous of the magnificent Three Graces which line the city’s waterfront. It is also part of Liverpool’s UNESCO-designated World Heritage Maritime Mercantile City. One of the first buildings in the world to be built using reinforced concrete, the Royal Liver Building stands at 98.2 m (322 ft) tall to the top of the spires, and 50.9 m (167 ft) to the main roof.

The Royal Liver Building holds significant historical and cultural importance to the city of Liverpool, not least as adorning its towers are the mythical Liver Birds, the symbols of Liverpool, said to protect both the city and sailors coming in to port. Legend has it that were these two birds to fly away, then the city would cease to exist. Today the Royal Liver Building is one of the oldest and most recognisable landmarks in the city of Liverpool.

The Venue first opened it’s doors in 2014 and is perfectly positioned on the first floor of the waterfront facing side of the Royal Liver Building, overlooking the Pier Head and the River Mersey. The Venue has since become the sought after event space for locals, national and international visitors to the city. Concerto Group Ltd- a London based Events Management company who own many other iconic sites including OXO2 on the Southbank and The Conservatory in Syon Park – were the driving force behind The Venue. Their vision was to expand the company outside of London and they quickly recognised Liverpool as a key location for investment due it’s unique culture, rich history and thriving economy. Luckily for us they discovered our unique space within the Royal Liver Building and for the first time provided the opportunity to host private events in the world famous venue. The Venue has been growing from strength to strength ever since.

The Venue provides a contemporary blank canvas, all white interior offering clients complete creative control to tailor the space to their own personal vision. The jewel in the crown is our outdoor balcony terrace which encapsulates the wow factor to guests allowing them to take in the stunning river views and look across the three graces to the Royal Albert Dock and beyond.

Can you tell us a bit about each room?

The Venue is made up of two adjoining rooms which have been named Bella and Bertie – the names of the famous Liver Birds on the roof of the Royal Liver Building.

Bella is a beautiful and elegant room combining original features with contemporary white décor, boasting a stunning ornate coved ceiling and marble flooring. There are river views throughout and a large bay window area that leads out to the large balcony terrace. Bella is usually used to hold the civil ceremony service as well as reception drinks where guests can mingle inside and out, enjoying drinks and canapes which are tray served to them by our attentive team.

Bertie is the larger of the two rooms and is a bright, open plan and versatile space. It has polished pine flooring and gallery style windows throughout providing continuous views of the river and also of our neighbouring three grace, the impressive Cunard Building. Traditionally Bertie is used for the wedding breakfast service and can also be used for the evening party.

Our Bridal Dressing Room is a popular feature; a private dressing room adjoining Bertie where our Brides can get ready on the morning of their wedding and retreat to and pamper throughout their wedding day.

The space means that we are a pretty versitile venue and can accomodate weddings from 20 guests up to 200 guests. We recommend a maximum of 140 guests for the civil ceremony and wedding breakfast, whilst up to 200 can be accommodated for evening receptions.

We also offer couples the opportunity to go up on to the roof of the Royal Liver Building with their photographer. This unique experience is often a highlight to their day and allows the photographer to take breath-taking photographs of the couple stood underneath the Liver Birds and also with a cityscape backdrop.

On the 9th floor we are licensed to host smaller, more intimate civil ceremony’s and wedding breakfasts in the original Secretary’s Office and Boardroom of the Royal Liver Building, rooms that were built back in 1911. Their interior retains many luxurious historic features and offers a unique alternative option for weddings with smaller guest numbers of up to 30.

What type of couples get married at The Venue?

We have been lucky enough to welcome a wide variety of couples to marry in The Venue. We of course welcome lots of local, loyal Liverpudlians who are delighted that they are able to hold the most important day of their life in their most loved building of the city.

Lots of our couples love the fact that they are able to see the building and the Liver Birds when they are out and about in Liverpool as it gives them a constant reminder of their wedding day and the memories they made with us in The Venue.

We have also held weddings for locals that are no longer living in Liverpool and have relocated nationally or internationally and have returned to marry in our landmark building, especially couples that have met in Liverpool at University and wish to return to where they first found their love to marry. It’s fair to say that all of our couples have a connection to the building, whether it’s because it’s the symbol of the city, or because their relatives have worked here in the past – we have even had a groom who’s great grandfather helped to strap the Liver Birds to the roof when the Liver Building was first built.

Our Wedding Packages range from £4995.00 to £10,295.00 and we also provide bespoke tailor made packages. We always try to be as flexible as possible to meet needs and budgets with the hope of making their dream their reality.

I’ve had the pleasure of eating at a wedding in The Venue and the food is amazing! Tell us a little about the food you offer…

We are partnered with Award Winning Caterers ‘Dougherty and Allen’ who are located nearby in Chester. The food and service that they provide is impecable and of high, fine dining quality. Dougherty and Allen host menu tasting sessions with all of our couples to allow them to tailor each dish that is served to their guests.

There is also a fully stocked and serviced bar within The Venue with a back bar of spirits, wines and bottled beers. We are also able to take brand requests and in the past have stocked a Greek beer as it was the grooms favourite!

How far in advance should couples book with you?

Our couples tend to book 18-24 months in advance however it’s always worth calling to check our availability. There are still some great dates available for whirlwind bookers in 2019! Our most popular months for weddings this year are May and August. We are able to host weddings all year round, on any day of the week.

We host wedding open evenings every few months for couples who are interested in The Venue. Our next one is scheduled on Wednesday 10th July from 5pm – 8pm. The Venue will be set and dressed for a wedding so it’s the perfect opportunity to visit and see the space as it would be for your special day. Guests are welcomed with a glass of prosecco and our events team are on hand to show you around and discuss your wedding requirements. Its a drop in evening so guests are welcome to come and go as they please.
