Hi! I am Vicky King from Glamorama Makeup, and I am really excited to be your beauty expert here on The Liverpool Wedding Blog.
Makeup is my passion, I have been doing makeup since I was old enough to pick up a lippy (3 years old if you must know)!
I can’t wait to share some tips, techniques, and professional advice with you.
I moved to Liverpool in 1999 after marrying my lovely hubby. At that time, I was a registered nurse. In 2002, I suffered a back injury which required two surgeries. While I was off work recovering, I decided to make a career change and I enrolled at Liverpool Community College to pursue my dream of becoming a makeup artist. I received a Level 3 diploma in Theatrical and Media Makeup, Hair, and Wigs as well as a Level 2 Certificates in Fashion Photographic Makeup and Face and Body Painting. I was awarded “Makeup Artist of the Year” by the college, I placed second in Professional Beauty National Body Painting Competition at London Olympia, and was key makeup artist for the independent feature film Under the Mud which was produced by Hurricane Films here in Liverpool. It was an exciting start to my career!
After freelancing for a short while, I took a job as counter manager for Benefit Cosmetics. I was then recruited by Estee Lauder to be a makeup artist and business manager. I managed their flagship counter in Debenhams Liverpool One from when it opened in 2008, until I had my son in 2011. I was fortunate to train with their excellent global makeup artist team on a regular basis, including the amazing Blair Patterson who does the makeup for their campaigns. Working for Estee Lauder was a great experience, I loved making women look and feel amazing when they visited me on counter. I had so many enquiries to do wedding makeups, however working every Saturday did not give me the opportunity to pursue that line of work. I began Glamorama Makeup in 2011 because I wanted to make more women look and feel like the most glamorous versions of themselves, especially brides! What I love most about being a wedding hair and makeup artist in Liverpool is that I get to spend the morning with the bride and her wedding party.
I strive to create a relaxed and fun environment for everyone. I ensure we have plenty of time to get everyone glammed! Once the bride is in my chair, that is probably her last chance to relax and have a quiet moment to herself before the madness of the wedding day begins. I feel that is a huge privalage to spend that time with her, making her look and feel fabulous.
I am a complete makeup geek. I would say my style is classic and glamorous. More red carpet chic and less Instagram. I love other makeup artists such as Charlotte Tilbury, Mary Greenwell, Val Garland, Kevyn Aucoin and Pat Mc Grath. I draw a lot of inspiration from the glamorous supermodels of the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. I think the best makeup enhances a woman’s beautiful features. I am a bit ‘old school’ and dislike the current trend of layering correctors, concealers, foundations, more concealers, and powders. Skin should look like skin, and I know the techniques to make it look like flawless perfect skin, not thick foundation!
I am super excited to be a part of The Liverpool Wedding Blog.
