Our first REAL LIVERPOOL WEDDING feature on the blog!
Your wedding is one of the biggest moments in your life. The way you choose to celebrate it should reflect your distinct personalities and who you are as a couple. I had the privilege of being the make-up artist for this incredibly sweet and funny bride this Summer, and I knew that her wedding would be perfect to feature here on the blog. Meet our first Real-Life couple, Gillian and Andy, and read all about their unique wedding…
Gillian and Andy met in a bar when Andy couldn’t find a table and so decided to rest his pint on Gillian’s head! She is only 5’2”, and he is much taller at 6’5”, which I can totally relate too being married to a 6’7” gentle giant myself! They mutually decided to get hitched, and spent a month shopping for the perfect engagement ring. Gillian fell in love with every ring she saw, and who doesn’t really? When they finally found “the one”, she made Andy propose to her in the car on the way home so it seemed like it was his idea. They spent about a year planning their wedding. Gillian purchased a wedding planner from Amazon, which she says, “was invaluable, I couldn’t have done it without!”. In the age of technology, we can sometimes forget about using physical pen and paper to help keep track of everything. Writing things down in a notebook or planner can really help you focus on your ‘to-dos’ and be an invaluable planning tool. Have you signed up to our newsletter to receive your free planner?
The wedding was actually celebrated over two days, the ceremony being on August 17, 2017 at St George’s Hall, “It was central and they took bookings for mid-week which was when we wanted to get married. We also loved the intimacy of the room the ceremony was held in.”. Following the ceremony, they had a meal at Defne on Taggart Avenue in Childwall (YUM!!!) with just the small party of family and a few close friends who attended the ceremony, “We wanted a very intimate wedding day so that we could feel relaxed and enjoy it as much as possible .” I think that that is a lovely way to celebrate! following evening, they had a more traditional wedding reception complete with a buffet and disco for 150 people at St Margaret Mary’s Church Hall on Pilch Lane, where everyone danced the night away.
By having the two individual celebrations, it also meant that Gillian could wear her fabulous wedding dress twice! What bride wouldn’t want to do that?
The first suppliers that they booked were makeup by our Beauty Expert Vicky at Glamorama Makeup (that’s me!) and hair styling by Hairby Kathleen. She met them while attending one of Bridal Reloved Liverpool’s styling events which are held every 3 months. (Side note… don’t miss the next one on October 26, 2017!)They also booked their wedding cars after meeting Rob at Homestead Cars at the same event. Talk about one stop shopping! Gillian’s dress and veil were also purchased from our Bridal Wear Expert Carol at Bridal Reloved Liverpool on Aigburth Road. It was a stunning off white gown with antique lace shoulders and a gathered waist. The dress suited her to a tee and I can personally tell you that she looked absolutely incredible. Her hair was a perfect classic bridal up-do done by Hairby Kathleen. Her makeup was designed to complement this classic style, keeping it very fresh with a ‘bridal glow’. For the reception the following evening, Gillian wore her hair down with glamorous curls and a more dramatic ‘party’ style of makeup.
Vicky was full of ideas and suggestions for what would work well with my skin and colouring and she even went out of her way to custom blend a foundation for me.”
The couple chose Rachel Ryan Photography to capture their day, “I had seen her work on Facebook and she has a very natural style which was what we were looking for.” He beautiful flowers were done by Joy’s Florist on Pilch Lane. Gillian chose pink peonies, ivory roses and ivory lisianthus. The peonies had to be swapped for John Austin roses, due to supply problems, which were just as beautiful.REAL WEDDING feat. @GlamoramaMakeup @BridalRelovedL @LetEmEatCakeLIV @RachelRyanPhoto @SGHLpool @Hairby_Kathleen Click To Tweet
The all important cake was made by Let’em Eat Cake, which was Gillian’s first choice as she has known Emma for several years and has seen her amazing cakes from the very start of her business. Gillian says, “I had an idea of what I wanted and she just absolutely got it spot on.”. She also wanted to give praise to, “Bridal Reloved for finding me the most beautiful dress and veil, Glamorama Makeup and Hairby Kathleen for making me look like a bride, Homestead Carriages for the lovely Bentley and for Rob keeping us calm on the way there and Let’em Eat Cake for making the most beautiful and delicious cake.”
Gillian felt that her wedding was absolutely perfect and there was nothing she would have changed about it at all. I think that is so wonderful, to have had such a perfect day marrying the person whom you love! The most special part for her was, “Seeing Andy as I went into the room and also having my Dad do a reading, which set me off crying.”. Can I get a tissue please?
Her advice to couples currently planning their weddings? “Once you have decided what you want then go with it as everyone will try and tell you how to plan your day. Try not to stress out as things always work out, and just enjoy the day. It really does go by so fast.”. Wise words indeed!
Your wedding celebration should be as unique as you are!
Thank you so much Gillian and Andy for sharing the story of your wedding with us! I can personally say that you were a fabulous bride and I loved being a part of both of your special days. I love that you two did it “your way” and had a very special celebration for your wedding. Congratulations to you once again, and best wishes from all of us at The Liverpool Wedding Blog.
