Being Nervous About Your Wedding Photographs is Perfectly Normal!

Wedding photographs can be nerve racking, even for the most confident of people . It’s a big day, you’ll cherish your photographs for years to come, so you want to make sure you look your best. I for one far prefer being behind the camera than in front of it, but when it’s your wedding you can’t avoid being the centre of attention. Everyone will want to take your photograph, not just your photographer. So, how do you calm those nerves?

Don’t think about the camera

Easier said than done right?! When you’re nervous about having your photograph taken its not always that easy to forget about the camera that will be following you round all day, but it’s one of the best things you can do. Enjoy your day and be in the moment and you will look beautiful in every photo! I believe my job as a photographer is to be as unobtrusive as possible, to stay as hidden as I can so that you barely notice the camera.

Encourage your guests to be in the moment

Not only will there be the photographer, but you’ll also have guests wanting to take your photo. Now you may not be as nervous about being in front of their cameras, but you might be nervous about how you’ll look in their photos. Facebook photos are notorious for not always being the most flattering, so is this the best for your wedding day? My advice is to discourage your guests from taking photos, let them share in the excitement of seeing the professional photos for the first time. Not only will they be more in the moment, but you’ll see their faces and smiles in the photos, rather than phones in front of their faces.

Trust your photographer

One of the best things you can do is to trust your photographer! This is their job, they know what to do, how to photograph you in the most flattering way, they’ve done it before. This is why it is so important to get along with your photographer. If you like them, you’ll trust them more and you will be so much more relaxed on the day because you’ll know that you have confidence in them to take the best photos they can.

Take advantage of a pre-wedding shoot

Another thing that I highly recommend to my couples is a pre-wedding shoot. I offer a pre-wedding shoot with every wedding booking and it can be a great way to get rid of some of the nerves! It’s like a practice run. You’ll get a chance to spend a bit more time with your wedding photographer and see how they work.

“Our pre wedding shoot made us feel more comfortable in front of the camera and also helped us to know what to expect on the day. As well as getting to know Lucy a bit more so it won’t be awkward on the wedding day!”

See more of my pre-wedding shoots here.

So don’t worry if you’re nervous about having your wedding photographs taken its a perfectly normal feeling. Trust your photographer and your photos will be beautiful.

If you have any tips for feeling less nervous in front of the camera I’d love to hear them!
