How to plan your wedding using Instagram
Planning your wedding is a very visual thing. Many couples use Pinterest to create vision boards for their big day, but couples are actually finding their dream wedding vendors on Instagram.
We love both here at the blog, and we are giving you our top tips for using Instagram to plan your wedding
Follow hashtags – both local and global
Following a hashtag means that posts using that hashtag will start appearing in your feed. Hashtags such as #weddinginspo #weddingplanning #wedmin #weddingstyle are great worldwide tags that will give you tons of varied posts. But be sure to follow the more local #liverpoolwedding #liverpoolbride and our personal fave #LWBsuppliers to discover local suppliers that you can actually book with.
Follow design accounts
If you want to buck the trends and start your own, check out some design accounts. Interior design, graphic design, and fashion design all inspire and influence wedding trends. You may find something completely unique and decide to incorporate it into your day. As a makeup artist, I don’t follow many makeup accounts. I do follow lots of srt accounts, graphic and interior design because I find them much more interesting and fresh. Get creative!
At the bottom right below an image on Instagram is a little bookmark icon. You can tap here to save that post to your account. When the save message pops up, there is an option to add the post to a collection. Choose this and you can create different collections to better organise your saved items, for instance venues, flowers, hair and makeup, suits, cakes, etc. This is a great way to shortlist vendors that you love.
Follow vendors you love
Are you a good social media spy? Instagram allows you to do a bit of a deep dive into your potential suppliers. You can check out their previous weddings and get an overall feel for the business and if they gel with your day. Many vendors also share great wedding planning tips!
Follow wedding blogs
Speaking of wedding planning tips, where better to find them than wedding blogs? There are so many out there, from real couples sharing their planning process to massive wedding industry giants like The Knot. We set up our blog nearly 3 years ago (OMG) because we wanted to be a trusted resource for local couples in the Liverpool area, bringing tips and showcasing what Liverpool has to offer in the wedding world.
Follow your venue
Your venue is probably the very first thing that you will book. Venues share lots of great images featuring suppliers that they love. It is really worth checking them out and seeing what your day could potentially look like. The perfect place to gather inspiration for your collections! Also do a periodic search on the location tab of your venue or their hashtag. Doing this will bring up pics snapped by people attending weddings or real couples sharing their wedding photos from the venue. This will give you a true feeling for what the venue is like.
Reach out to real couples
See some amazing wedding photos that you love? You can DM anyone on Instagram, so why not shoot them a message to find out more about their day? You can ask what suppliers they used, get honest references and opinions, and maybe make a wedding planning pal! Reach out to suppliers as well, we are so happy to answer your questions about what we do.
Use the ‘close friends’ option on Instagram Stories
You can create a close friends list so that you can send stories just to these select people. This is a great way to communicate with your wedding party or maybe share ideas with any friends and family who may be helping you with the planning.
You can see there are many great ways to use Instagram for planning your wedding! Have you found it to be a useful tool? Let us know in the comments or on Facebook or Instagram.
