Q&A – Wedding Day Tanning

We are (hopefully!) approaching the summer months, and brides and bridesmaids alike may want to have a golden glow for the big day. Our Beauty Expert Vicky King from Glamorama Makeup shares her top tips for tanning, that won’t damage your skin or your dress!

Wedding day tanning

Q: “I want a natural looking tan for my big day – how can I achieve this with make-up because I don’t want to use sun beds?”

A: Every bride wants to look radiant and healthy for their big day! It goes without saying that sunbeds and sunbathing are terrible for your skin and health.

Exposure to too much UV rays will not only cause long term and potentially life threatening damage to your skin. It will also leave your skin dehydrated, and your makeup will not sit well or look its best.

Because of the danger of transferring onto your wedding dress, I would avoid using instant tanners or body makeup. You would really regret getting orange or brown marks on your beautiful wedding dress! But there are plenty of other ways to look sun kissed for your wedding day.

Wedding day tanning
  • Try using a gradual tanning lotion to build up a natural glow. I can recommend Dove Summer Revealed lotion. It is natural, streak free, and smells beautiful. Make sure you exfoliate with an oil free scrub or a loofa before hand to help prevent any unevenness.
  • You may also choose to have a spray tan 2-3 days before the wedding. Definitely book in for a trial a few weeks before to make sure you are happy with how it looks. Again, skin prep is vital to make sure the tan looks it’s best. I can personally recommend Clare’s Spray Tans. She is mobile and is in and out in 20 minutes, leaving you looking like you’ve had a tropical holiday! She offers a range of shades from lightly natural to full on bronze. Get in touch with her via our Directory.
  • For your face, try Charlotte Tilbury Overnight Bronze and Glow Mask which hydrates skin while you sleep, and you wake up with glowing, natural bronzed skin. Again, be sure to test it out ahead of time! You don’t want to wake up on your wedding day looking too tanned.
  • On the day, be sure to match your foundation to the tan on your body. Define your features using a bronzer, and add natural glow by highlighting your cheekbones and brow. Pop a warm peachy blusher on the apples of your cheeks to lift your skintone. Do not over powder, a sun kissed look is dewy and radiant.
