Wedding cake makers – Celebrating Liverpool women in business for International Women’s Day 2019
This week at The Liverpool Wedding Blog we are celebrating International Women’s Day. As the blog is run by three independent female business owners, we thought we’d give a shout out to some of the other Merseyside based female lead wedding businesses we’ve had the pleasure of meeting over the last few years.
Today I’d like to give a shout out to something we all love…. cake! I’ve had the pleasure of meeting and working with each of these incredible female bakers, each one who takes amazing pride in the look and taste of
First up is Niky from Dinky Bakes, who will be making my own wedding cake later this year! I first tasted Niky’s cakes at a wedding fayre, she kindly gave me a little doggy bag to take home for me and Andy to share. Needless to say the bag didn’t make it home! (Sorry Andy!)
Here are a few words from Niky, “I’m totally passionate about cakes and baking. I love the whole cake making process from design to decoration (ok I don’t actually love the washing up part lets be honest) I set up Dinky Bakes almost two years ago now to follow my dream having baked delicious creations for many years for friends and family and I’ve met amazing customers along the way.”
Another amazingly talented baker I’ve had the pleasure of meeting is Elizabeth Harris. We’ve met a few times now at the Hope Street Hotel wedding fayres and I’ve always admired her stunning designs! Oh and I’ve also snuck a little taster before! Ha ha sorry Liz, Jeanette Flynn make up artist made me do it!
Elizabeth Harris designs bespoke Wedding Cakes for clients across Liverpool. Working from her studio, she’ll collaborate with you to create a wedding cake to remember! Elizabeth started baking at home as a child and never stopped. She fell in love with all things baking and began making cakes for friends and family, and selling to local businesses. Over a decade later and she’s still just as passionate as ever.
The Cake Shop Liverpool
Next up is Karen from The Cake Shop Liverpool. I first met Karen while showcasing at the Hard Days Night Hotel. I quickly learned how she’s built her well known business throughout Liverpool over the last 25 years! Now based in The Wedding House, Karen’s cakes are always eye catching and unique. She takes the finer details super seriously from choosing the right shade of icing to match your dress for the big day, to re-creating an entire building in cake!
Last of all, but certainly not least, is the amazingly talented Gerry from Studio8 cakes based in South Liverpool, not too far from my bridal shop. I first met Gerry when we collaborated on a display for my shop window, she brought with her some gorgeous creations to attract people’s attention! I’ve continued to follow Gerry while she’s gone on to win some amazing awards too!
I’m pretty sure she’d be capable of taking something straight out of your imagination and making it in to a cake!
